korhogo mud cloths

these wonderful old mudcloth panels are woven and hand painted by the senufo people of west africa. they start by spinning the natural cotton, which is then woven into 150mm strips that are then stitched together to make the panel on which to paint. mud is then painted directly onto the cloth to create patterns depicting animals, men in ceremonial dress and buildings, which is left out in the hot sun to dry.
