made since 1945 by duralex in la chapelle-saint-mesmin, france. the technique was developed in the 1930s by saint gobain. moulded glass is heated to 600 degrees, then cooled very quickly to create an impact resistance twice superior to normal glass, along with high tolerance to temperature change.
